New Mexico State has gotten to the foul line more than any other team in the nation this season.

The Aggies lead the nation with 472 free throw attempts on the season, nearly 100 more attempts than their opponents.

They went to the charity stripe 37 times in an 80-68 WAC victory over Fresno State on Saturday to improve to 2-1 in league play.

"Without it being a great focus, it has (turned into a weapon)," Aggies coach Marvin Menzies said. "You always want to get to the free throw line, it's not like we are emphasizing it. Everything is personnel and matchup driven."

New Mexico State has emphasized attacking the rim rather than settle for perimeter shots as they did a year ago, ranking No. 14 in three-point makes per game.

"We knew we had to operate more from 17 or 16 feet and in a little more," Menzies said. "We are still taking more 3s than we wanted but that number has been coming down and we are probably a little more efficient."
